 Forget the Kindle and haters, this is finally the ebook reader you've been waiting for!, After many years of waiting for the right ebook reader, I am happy to say that Sony FINALLY delivers. This is the ebook reader I've been waiting for. The biggest problem I've had with the Kindle and other ebook readers like it was the size of the screen, crappy PDF support, lack of touch interface, and finally larger than necessary margins to accommodate stupid things like a keyboard interface (think Kindle). Finally, after many years, the new Sony ebook reader solves ALL of this. It has a full 7" display; however, it is no bigger than the new Nook touch or Kobo touch. The thing is LIGHT too. And the most perfect thing about it is the IR touch display. The margins of the screen and tablet are no longer hindered by unnecessary physical controls like a keyboard or panning controls. The screen IS the interface! That part is just so awesome. Secondly, the next biggest concern was native PDF support. The Sony does an AMAZING job in this department. You can zoom, pan, and crop PDF's on the ebook reader. However, I like using Briss to do this and exporting out a new PDF. The Sony reads it like a champ. It can handle scientific journals, textbooks, mathematics formulas, everything without any problems. With Briss cropped files, the Sony is able to display entire textbook pages as portrait without a problem. If there is a complicated graphic that is hard to read, no problem, use the zoom and pan functions to display the page. There is usually no problems, unless you zoom to much, with reflowing of text and graphics. Unlike other ebook readers like the Nook touch, the Sony is able to go LANDSCAPE mode. This is just so important for ebook readers to do. Intricate PDF's can become problematic on small screens. With landscape mode, you can see half the page in larger size and still have a good idea of what is going on. Finally, there is WIFI support, a good web browser, and audio support. Battery life is pretty decent at 2-3 weeks. Screen contrast is exceptional and no different than other Pearl based eInk screens. |
